EFLU Shillong campus
The Shillong Campus of the EFLU was established in 1973 to cate to the needs of the North-East region. The foundation stone for the permanent complex of the Campus at Shillong was laid by Shri P. R. Kyndiah, Tribal Affairs Minister, Govt. of India, on 20 September, 2006. The strategic geographic location of the Centre, the serene setting, ethnographical factors and the primacy of English in the region for educational and career opportunities make EFLU North-East Campus an ideal academic destination for the people of Northeast and other parts of India.
About EFLU
The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) is a Central University that was created by an Act of the Indian Parliament in December 2006. The Act came into force on August 3, 2007. The EFL University is built upon the achievements of CIEFL, and significantly expanded its activities on the national and global stage. The Central Institute of English was the brainchild of the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. CIE, as it was called then, was set up in 1958 in Hyderabad to train teachers of English. In April 1972, the Institute broadened its scope to include the major foreign languages, and was renamed the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL). Its mandate is to advance and disseminate “instructional, research and extension facilities in the teaching of English and Foreign Languages and Literatures in India” as well as “to take appropriate measures for interdisciplinary studies and research in Literary and Cultural Studies, and to develop critical intercultural understanding of civilizations.” The university is committed to the principles of inclusive and cosmopolitan growth.
EFLU headquartered in Hyderabad has two campuses :
1. Shillong campus
2. Lucknow Campus
